ما الذى نأخده اليوم عن نيتشه؟ إننا نأخذ عليه, قبل كل شئ, نزعته إلى اللامعقول, وإلى الفردية المفرطة, والأمران مرتبطان: ذلك لأن العقل هو أساس إتفاق الناس وتوحيد إتجاهاتهم, وما إن تستقر عقولنا على فكرة معينة, حتى تقف كلها من الفكرة موقفاً واحداً, أما المشاعر والإنفعالات, فهى بطبيعتها فردية, تتباين من شخص إلى أخر, وعلى ذلك فهى أساس للتفرق والتميز, وهكذا نجد الفلسفات العقلية تصطبغ على الدوام بصبغة عمومية, بينما تصطبغ الفلسفات اللاعقلية, أعنى المبنية على المشاعر فى مقابل العقل بصبغة فردية وبالمثل, فمن المحال أن تجد فيلسوفاً ينادى بالفردية المطلقة, ويكون ذا إتجاه عقلى, بينما تغلب النزعة العقلية على من يضعون اللإنسانية مثلاً عامة مشتركة. فوقع كلمات نيتشه يبدو اليوم غريباً على أذاننا لأن نغمته الأساسية هى التى تدعو إلى اللامعقول, وإلى الفرد المطلق. ومع ذلك, فقد حاولت من قبل أن أستخلص من فيلسوف اللامعقولية هذا نوعاً من المذهب المترابط, المتماسك الأطراف, وأن أكشف الخيط الرفيع الجامع بين شعاب فلسفته المتفرقة. وعلى هذا النحو تبينت أننى لم أكن متناقضاً مع نفسى: فقد إلتزمت جانت المعقول على الدوام, حتى فى بحثى لأعنف الفلاسفة نقداً للعقل.
