Book Description
اصطرعت في حجرة مكتبي أفكار الليبرالية والاشتراكية والشيوعية والفوضوية والسلفية الدينية والفاشستية. وجدتني في دوامة صاخبة دار بها رأسي، وعملاً بمبدئي في تقديس العقل نزعت إليه اسأله الرشد وسط ذلك الطوفان.
وذات يوم سألني الأستاذ "سعد كبير" ونحن بصدد استعراض المذاهب، وسوف اقتصر على ذكر اسمه لخطورة الدور الذي لعبه في حياتي ولتفاهة أثر الآخرين، سألني:
-ما أنت؟
فقلت بعد تردد:
-لا شيء.
فقال بحنق وكان شديد الحساسية والعصبية رغم ذكائها وشمول ثقافته:
-إنه الموت..
-ولكنى دارس مجتهد ممن يقدسون العقل.
-وهل يتم للعقل مضمونه دون أن يبدى رأيه في نظام الحكم البشري؟
-ولكن.. ولكن السياسة مصالح.
-المصالح تهدي الرجل العادي إلى حزبه ولكن العقل يستطيع بنوره أن يميز بين الحق والباطل..
فتساءلت مبتسماً:
-أين توجهني مصالحي فيما تظن؟
-ولكنك بالعقل تستطيع أن تتجاوز موقفك...
-على أي حال يجب أن يعطي مهلة أطول للتفكير.
وأفضيت بهمومي إلى هدى باعتبارها الصديق الأول الذي لا أخفى عنه شيئاً، فقالت بلا تردد:
-ألاحظ أن السياسة مفسدة للعقل.
فقلت لها وكأنما أعلن عما يضطرم في أعماقي:
-ذلك يتوقف على العقل نفسه..
فأقلت لي بإيمان:
-في السياسة يجد العقل نفسه في محنة..
-ربما، ولكن لن يكون الحل في الهرب.
قلب الليل رواية حصلت على جائزة الدولة المصرية التقديرية وجائزة نوبل العالمية للآداب لعام 1988 وذلك لما يجسده من أفكار المستمد نجيب محفوظ صورها من مجمعه المصري في تلك الفترة الماضية من الزمن.
