في هذا الكتاب تتابع المؤلفة رحلتها الأبجدية مع أدب الرحلات، وبعد كتابها "الجسد حقيبة سفر" الذي اقتصرت رحلاته على مدن أوروبا الغربية وأخرى عربية، ترافق غادة السمان هذه المرة شرقاً لنزور بانوك، ومانيلا وسينغافور، وهونغ كونغ وسواها، ثم نرحل غرباً إلى نيويورك وواشنطن ولوس أنجلوس وهوليوود، ولاس فيغاس واورلاندو وميامي وغيرها من مدن الولايات المتحدة. في محاولة للتعرف على التضاريس الروحية للناس في البلدان التي تزورها، وعلى جغرافيا قلوبهم ومناخاتهم النفسية والروحية. فالرحيل حوار صامت مع الحضارات الأخرى.
