مؤلف قصة "وا إسلاماه"هو الأديب الكبير "علي أحمد باكثير"، الذي ولد في أندونيسيا عام 1910م لأبوين يمنيين. وقد أرسله والده إلى حضرموت باليمن لينشأ فيها ويقضي بها طفولته وصباه.. وهناك، في مدينة "سيون" اليمينة يصدر "علي أحمد باكثير" جريدة "السلام".. ثم قام في شبابه بجولة علمية ثقافية في الصومال وإثيوبيا والسودان ثم السعودية.
والأديب "باكثير" من رواد المسرح العربي، فلقد نشر في مصر عام 1934 أولى مسرحياته "همام، أو في بلاد الأحقاف"..، كما أبدع "باكثير" في كثيراً من القصائد الشعرية، وأصدر ديواناً نشر فيه بعض قصائده، وهو ديوان "أزهار الربى في شعر الصبى".
ولـ"باكثير" ملحمة مسرحية رائعة نشرها في ثمانية عشر جزءاً عن سيدنا "عمر بن الخطاب" رضي الله عنه، وهي ملحمة تعكس حياة المسلمين وحياة الإسلام في السنوات الأولى من فجره، وقد حصل بها على جائزة الدولة التشجيعية في عام 1964.
وارتبط اسم الأديب الكبير "علي أحمد باكثير" بروايته الشهيرة "واإسلاماه" التي جسدت عظمة العقيدة الإسلامية في مواجهة حملات المغول الشرسة.
