"عبد الله بن علي القصيبي" (1903-1995) أول رجل دين وهابي من الرعيل الأول، نزع ثوبه الديني، بعد ممارسة طويلة في خدمة الدعوة الوهابية، وألّف خلالها العديد من الكتب دفاعاً عن الحركة السلفية والنظام السعودي الناشئ. ثم وقف ناقداً وبشدة مسار قادة الدعوة ومحذراً إياهم من التعصب الديني ومن الانفلاق والجمود ومدافعاً في نفس الوقت عن حقوق المرأة.
فألف كتابه الرائع "هذه هي الأغلال" واضعاً بذلك حداً نهائياً لممارسته السابقة وطارقاً الطلاق الديمقراطي مع المؤسسة الدينية الوهابية والنظام، مما عرض نفسه إلى لعنة النظام ورجال الدين منذ عام 1946 وإلى اليوم. ومنذ الخمسينات وحتى نهاية السبعينات ألف الأستاذ القصيبي كتبه العديدة الضخمة ذات البعد الساخط على العالم ككل ولا تخلو من بعد الحادي واضح وسافر من كل شيء.
كتابه الذي بين أيدينا هو واحد من أهم إصدارات القصيبي، وهو يحتوي على المقالات التي كان قد دونها لملحق جريدة النهار البيروتية ومجلة مواقف، والتي يستعرض فيها واقع الإنسان العربي ومآسيه، وصراعاته مع الدين والحياة، والسياسة، والمجتمع، وذلك بأسلوب لا يخلو من السخرية اللاذعة التي تكشف من ناحية عن إذلال العربي وضعفه وآلامه وعاهاته وذنوبه وهمومه، وتعاطيه مع الواقع المرير، وتكشف من ناحية أخرى عن شجاعة العربي، ومواجهته لأعدائه وفي مقدمتهم إسرائيل التي يعلن المؤلف ويؤكد على أن إسرائيل ليست إسرائيل ولكنها هي العالم العربي قد جاء في صيغة أخرى.
