إنّ الحزن الكبير الّذي ألهمَ قلم السّندباد لينبضَ بالحياة لا يعبّرُ عن مأساةٍ نيلام الهنديّة فقط، إذ يوجدُ هناك كثيراً مثل نيلام وفي بقاع مختلفة من الأرض، كنّ عبر الزّمن ضحايا عاداتٍ وتقاليد سمحتْ للمستغلّين من ضعافِ النّفوس بالإساءةِ للبشريّة وعاداتِ الشّعوب.
تدورُ احداثُ رواية احزان السّندباد في شبهِ القارّةِ الهنديّةِ في ثمانينيّاتِ القرنِ الماضي، ويبدعُ خلالها الدّكتور طالب عمران - وهو الذي شكّلت فترةُ إقامتهِ في الهند حقبةً مهمّةً في تاريخ حياته - بسردٍ وقائع قصةٍ رائعة فيها الكثير من الغّرَابة والمفاجآت بأسلوبٍ أدبيٍّ مشوّقٍ، كما يستنبطُ القارئ فيها إسقاطاتٍ مؤثّرة على مكنوناتٍ النّفسِ البشريّةِ الّتي تقودُ النّاس في إتجاهاتٍ مختلفة في هذا العالمِ المليءِ بالتّناقضاتِ والصّراعات.
