لم يصدق "سيد السابق" أنه نجى من هلاك قد أحاط به هو ومن معه من الأهل. وعندما استقرت الريح نظر إلى الجثث حوله. لم يصدق "سيد السابق" ذلك فبكى، بكى كثيرًا ثم ضحك بصوت مرتفعٍ، ورأى سوادًا يقترب قد خرج توًا من بطن الجبل القريب، هم من تبقوا بعد أن لجأوا إلى الجبل.
قرر "السابق" أن يرحل بهم إلى الناحية الأخرى من الجبل، وبذلك يضمن لهم ساترًا من ريحٍ تهلك الحرث والنسل.. قال لي:
ابقَ معهم.. أنت صديقي!!
منذ ذلك الوقت وأنا أحس ضيقًا في التنفس.
