تطلعت الى كتلة الظلمة الممتدة بحجم الكون وضوء السفينة البعيد الشاحب المزهوق هذه السفينة تقف منذ شهر خارج البوغاز.على يقين انا انها هى نفسها رغم انه لا نوء فى الجو ولا عواصف. وسمعت صوت الموج..غاضباً.. قانعاً.. متخاذلاً.. لا ادرى! لوألقى بنفسى على الصخور الخشنة الصلبة سأموت. ليكن. هذا الماء الغبى لايفعل شيئأ غير المد والجزر طوال ملايين السنين.. ووحده مع نفسة لايشارك احداً فى شئ ولا يبالى بالسفن التى صارت تدوس فوقه، ولا بالنفايات التى تلقى فيه، ولا الاسماك التى تتناحر تحته هل يضير العالم شيئاً ان يفقد احد ابنائه المهملين؟ لكنى فكرت فى استقبال العائد من القدس بعد ايام. هذا ما يقوله " شجرة محمدعلى" بطل هذه الرواية العجيب الذى كان يمارس عملا غريبا هو اخراج المظاهرات المؤيدة للرئيس السادات. انها شخصية التقطها الكاتب من التحولات السياسية فى الحياة المصرية وهى غير مسبوقة فى الرواية العربية مع شخصياتها الاخرى ومع هذا فرغم حزنها الشفيف تجنح الى الكوميديا وروح الدعابة وتدور مثل سائر اعمال المؤلف فى مدينة الاسكندرية.. عشق الكاتب الكبير.
