تبدأ الرواية وقد قتلت البطلة (ليلى) بوحشية وألقيت جثتها في مكب للقمامة ، وتدور الأحداث في الدقائق الـ10 والثواني الـ38 ثانية الأخيرة التي يعمل خلالها عقلها قبل أن تموت. بعد توقف قلبها عن الخفقان تستمر المرأة في التفكير إليف شفق.. و«هذا العالم الغريب» اليف شفق رافع البرغوثي - «10 دقائق و38 ثانية في هذا العالم الغريب» هي أحدث رواية للكاتبة التركية إليف شفق مؤلفة «قواعد العشق الأربعون». تبدأ الرواية وقد قتلت البطلة «ليلى» بوحشية وألقيت جثتها في مكب للقمامة، وتدور الاحداث في الدقائق الـ10 والثواني الـ38 ثانية الأخيرة التي يعمل خلالها دماغها قبل أن تموت. تروي «10 دقائق و 38 ثانية في هذا العالم الغريب» قصة تيكيلا ليلى، العاهرة التي تعيش في إسطنبول. يصف عنوان الرواية والنصف الأول منها اللحظات الأخيرة من وعي ليلى وهي تعبر من الحياة إلى الموت. يبدأ الكتاب وقد توقف قلب ليلى بالفعل عن الخفقان، لكن أفكارها تنطلق «ظن الناس أنك قد تحولت إلى جثة في اللحظة التي لفظت فيها أنفاسك الأخيرة. لكن الأمور لم تكن بذلك الوضوح. كانت هناك ظلال لا حصر لها بين الأسود الفاحم والأبيض الناصع، وهكذا كانت هناك مراحل متعددة مما يسمى «الراحة الأبدية». إذا كانت هناك حدود بين عالم الحياة وعالم الحياة الآخرة، فقد قررت ليلى، ان تلك الحدود يجب أن تكون قابلة للاختراق كحجر رملي.
