قال يسوع إنّ الحلف لا يجوز, ولن أحلف, لكنّي أقول لك في هذه اللّحظة وفي حضرة ما أقدّسه «إنّني صرت منك وفيك». كان شاقّاً عليّ أن أعترف بها, لكنّها كانت الحقيقة التي هربتُ منها آلاف المرّات وخبّأتها عن الكلّ, حتّى عن نفسي أخفيتها. أحسست أنّ مريم ستضيع منّي وأنّه آن الأوان لأفتكها وتصير لي. شعرت بأنّني لا أريد أن أقول المزيد, مشيت نحوها بصمت, كان الضّباب قد انقشع تقريباً, ولاح قرص الشّمس الأصفر واهناً في البعيد, إنّها المرّة الأولى التي يتاح لي فيها أن أنفرد بمريم وأرى نهراً يجري بي وبها بعد أن خرجتُ من الحيرة التي كانت تستبدّ بي بين حياة الرّهبنة والحبّ والزّواج, فقرّرتُ أن أجترح المعجزات وأن أعترف لمريم. شهق ملء رئتيه ولبث فترة متردِّداً ثمّ قال: «نعم أحبّها وأريدها, كم من الوقت سيمرّ لتعترف هي أيضاً بأنّها تحبّني؟».
