الكلمات والأشياء - ميشيل فوكويعتبر كتاب (الكلمات والأشياء) ليس أهم ما كتب ميشيل فوكو وعبّر عن فلسفته فحسب، ولكنه كذلك أفضل شاهد على قدرة العقل في إعادة اكتشاف أنظمته المعرفية، ومراجعتها لأول مرة في تاريخ الفلسفة الحديثة خارج الأطر الإيديولوجية التي اعتادت أن تقنعها وتستخدمها. وهو الكتاب الذي يشكل في تحولات الفكر الغربي الراهنة مرجعاً أساسياً لفلسفة الحداثة وعَقْلنة قطائعها التاريخية الرئيسية، وصولاً إلى ما يتجاوزها هي بالذات نحو ما يسمّى اليوم بالحداثة البعدية، أو بما بعد الحداثة. إن ترجمة هذا الكتاب إلى العربية في حد ذاته ، يمدّ الثقافة العربية بمفاتيح لكشف أسرار العقل الغربي، ومنعطفات قطائعه الرئيسية التي شكلت السرّ الأعمق لما يُسمّى بمعجزة التفوّق الغربي. ودراسة العقل لوسائله المعرفية، وتقييمها، فضلاً عن كونها امتياز الحضارة الأعلى وشاهدَها الأمثل على حيويتها وقدرتها على الاحتفاظ بقدرات النهوض وتجديدها. فإنها في الوقت ذاته تجعل من الحداثة، ليس مجرد حالة تأريخية طارئة، بقدر ما هي كينونة مستمرة، ومفاجئة لوعودها بالذات. ترجمة فوكو إلى العربية مساهمة صعبة في تغيير مصطلح القراءة والكتابة، وآليات المعرفة العلمية الشائعة، كما فعل كتاب ""الكلمات والأشياء"" عند ظهوره في لغته الأصلية. والجهد الذي يتطلبه فهمه ومؤلفته، جهد حقيقي في تغيير عادات العقل العربي. وشروع في ممارسة ما هو الأصعب والحقيقي في مصطلح الحداثة، وتحويله من شعار شبه سياسي، إلى ممارسة العقل ذاته.
