و"الثلج يشتعل" قصة رجل وامرأة، بوريس وإيميلا، يبحث أحدهما عن الآخر، فيلتقي به ثم يضيعه، ثم يلتقي به ثانية، ويحن إليه ويفقده، عبر أوروبا وأميركا. في النضال والعذاب والموات والقتل. من أجل حب البشر.
اختارت إيميلا، ابنة جبال النمسا، أن تقاتل من أجل العدالة. وتلتقي في هافانا بشاب فرنسي، بوريس، نجا من ثورة أخرى، فتحسره، ولكنها تحب زعيماً ثورياً، هو كارلوس وتذهب فتعيش معه في "لا باز" في الخفاء والفرح، إلى اليوم الذي تغتاله الشرطة البوليفية. وتفقد إيميلا كل شيء: الرجل الذي تحبه، والطفل الذي تنتظره، والمعركة التي تخوضها، ولكنها لا تترك الدرب الذي سلكته، فمن كوبا إلى التشيلي، ومن بوليفيا إلى إنكلترا، ومن باريس إلى همبورغ، تضطلع بقدرها حتى النهاية. قدر المرأة المناضلة.
إن التاريخ يسكن قصة هؤلاء الأبطال. فهو لحمهم، وعذابهم، وألمهم. إن سعادة بوريس وإيميلا مستحيلة، ولكن أناساً آخرين سيكونون يوماً، بفضلهم، أقل شقاء. إن هذه الرواية أغنية حب في مأساة عصرنا, توكيد إرادة للحياة وللنضال.
