Book Description
ولد إميل زولا في باريس في 12 نيسان 1840، من أم بورجونية وأب إيطالي، وكان والده فرنسوا زولا، المهندس، يسكن في أيكس -آن- بروفانس، حيث كان يعمل في بناء قناة سميت باسمه.
كان قد تعرف إلى فتاة في التاسعة عشرة من عمرها، تدعى أميلي -أورالي- أوبين، خلال المدة التي قضاها في باريس ساعياً للحصول على المساعدات الضرورية لتحقيق مشروعه. وكان فرنسوا وهو في الثالثة والأربعين من عمره، رجلاً ذا تصميم حاسم، فلم يكد يقع نظره على الفتاة حتى قرر التزوج منها.
أما إميل فقد ولد خلال سكن والديه الجديد في العاصمة، في منزل وقتين استأجره أبوه في الرقم 10 من شارع القديس يوسف قريباً من شارع موغارت.
وبعد أن أنهى فرنسوا زولا مساعيه، رجع إلى إيكس مع زوجته وابنه، ومات سنة 1847م.
كان إميل زولا في السابعة من عمره عند موت أبيه، فقضى ما بينها وبين الثانية عشرة من سنيه في مدرسة داخلية، ثم التحق بكلية إيكس. فكان منها في عداد النافخين في البوق واليراعة خلال الاستعراضات التي تنظم بين فصلين من رواية عالج بها قضية الصليبيين. وبعد قيامه بدراسات سطحية جداً، أكب على العمل فجأة وذهب بأكثر الدرجات الأولى في نهاية السنة الدراسية.
ومع إن علاقاته بالبروفانس لم تكن غير علاقات عرضية، فإن انطباعات الطفولة والمراهقة ستترك فيه آثار دائمة. إنه لن يكون كاتباً ريفياً، ولن تكون له بالنسبة للبروفانس أمانة بول آرين أو الفرنس دوده، ولكنه سيذكر على الدوام نزهاته في ريف إيكس مع سيزان وباي وسيتكلم دائماً بانفعال شديد عن هذه المرحلة من حياته، أما البروفانسيون فسيكونون كثراً في مؤلفاته وسيبقى أميناً على صداقات شبابه.
يقتحم هذا الكتاب عالم إميل زولا الشخصي والأدبي، محاولاً قراءة سيرته الذاتية عبر سير وأحداث حياته بشكل مفصل، ويهمنا هنا إبراز أن مؤلف هذه المذكرات وكاتبها هو إميل زولا نفسه وهو بلا ريب أجدر من يكتب عن نفسه وحياته.
