على شرح نظم الطرفة في مصطلح الحديث إنتاجا علميًا جديدًا ومنقحا على مستوى المضمون والمنهج، بحيث أضفى المهدي الوزاني على شرح محمد بن عبد القادر الفاسي اللمسة المغربية الوزانية الأخيرة التي كان في حاجة إليها لإتمام فوائده، فقد صيغ مضمونها عبر مراحل منها استهلاله بمقدمة وجيزة في التعريف بصاحب المتن ثم شارحه ومكانتهما العلمية، ثم انتقل إلى تفكيك مضامين وأفكار الشرح، موظفا في ذلك مختلف المصادر وآليات الاستدلال، فكان منتصرا أحيانا لبعض المواقف، أو معقبا ومستدركا على مواقف أخرى، وجاء مضمون الحاشية مسايرا لترتيب النظم والشرح، مشيرا إلى بعض الزيادات التي استدركها عليهما في مادة مصطلح الحديث وما يتصل به.
