يتناول هذا الكتاب رسالة نقدية متميزة كتبها العلّامة المهدي الوزاني، "مفتي فاس" وأحد كبار فقهاء النوازل بالمغرب، ردًّا على الفقيه الجزائري ابن مهنا الذي وجّه انتقادات إلى علماء المغرب ووطنهم ونظمهم التعليمية والثقافية وغيرها. وقد جاء رد الوزاني في مقالة علمية رصينة، دافع فيها عن ذمة أهل فاس والمغرب حيث اتسم ردّه بعمق فقهي ومنهجية دقيقة، استند فيها إلى أدلة شرعية محكمة وحجج عقلية متماسكة، أظهرت براعته في صناعة الاستدلال وأسلوب النقد. ونال هذا العمل استحسان عدد من فقهاء عصره، كما أثنى عليه العديد من ذوي المنصب السلطاني والعلويين في زمانه وألحقوه بتقريضات شعرية ذات دلالة علمية ورمزية.
تتجلى أهمية هذا التأليف في كونه نموذجًا منهجيًا فريدًا لأدب الردود الفقهية بين عالمين معاصرين، يعالج قضايا تسهم في إبراز أبعاد التراث الفقهي المغربي، من حيث عمقه العلمي ومضامينه الفكرية والوطنية، ما يجعله ذا قيمة مضافة للقراء المغاربة والعرب على حد سواء.
