إنَّ دورات المناخ من أعقد الدورات الطبيعية، إذ لا يمكن في كثير من الحالات كشفها إلا بعد أن تنتهي. ودورات المناخ منذ القدم كانت محط اهتمام مختلف شرائح المجتمع، حيث أجريت كثير من الأبحاث والدراسات في هذا المجال، ومع ذلك كلّه لم يحسم هذا الموضوع لحد الآن، إذ إنَّ معلوماتنا عنها لا تزال غير كاملة. والأمر الوحيد الذي استطاع الإنسان اكتشافه هو وجود الدورات المناخية، أمَّا كيفية تكرار الدورات، وطول الدورات، وتحديد تواريخ بدء ونهاية الدورات المناخية، فلا تزال معلوماتنا عنها غير كاملة، لأنَّ أبرز صفة في معظم الدورات المناخية هو التغير وعدم الثبات. قسم هذا الكتاب على خمسة فصول، خصص الفصل الأول لموضوع تعريف الدورات المناخية، وأنواعها. وبدايات دراستها. وخصص الفصل الثاني لمناقشة أسباب الدورات المناخية، وناقش الفصل الثالث تحديد طرق تحديد الدورات المناخية. في حين خصص الفصل الرابع لمناقشة السنوات الجافة والرطبة في القرآن الكريم. اما الفصل الخامس والاخير فقد خصص لمناقشة التنبؤ الجوي من حيث مفهومه وأنواعه، ومشاكله وأهميته. زيادة على طرق التنبؤ عند العرب بالسنوات الجافة والرطبة على المدى القصير، والمدى الطويل.
