يتناول الكتاب مرحلة فاصلة من مراحل التاريخ الأندلسي فترة ملوك الطوائف في بيت آل عباد ، هذه الأسرة التي أنجبت ملوكا وأمراء حكموا قرابة قرن من الزمان عرف خلالها استقراة ورغد عيش في أوله ،ولكنه انتهى بالأسرة الزوال بعد الاضطرابات التي كانت نتيجة الفساد المستشري وأطماع المسيحيين في الملك/ كان المعتمد بن عباد يمثل هذه الحقبة أيام الرخاء وبعد تدهور الأوضاع، الأمر الذي انتهى به إلى سجن أغمات بالمغرب الأقصى على يد المرابطين
