كتبتُ هذه الرواية وأنا أستمع إلى الأصوات التي لا تُقال، إلى الخطوات التي تمشي في الذاكرة، وإلى الموسيقى التي لا تصدرها الآلات، بل تصدرها الأرواح حين تتلامس في لحظة ضياع أو رجاء. "بقايا الليل" ليست قصة عن الحرب، ولا عن الحب، ولا حتى عن الفقد… بل عن أثر الضوء حين يمرُّ على جدار مظلم ولا يترك إلا ومضة خافتة نُسميها الأمل.
ربما لن يعرف إيفان أبدًا أن إيلينا قرأت اسمه في صمت. وربما لم تعرف إيلينا أن صدى خطواتها ظلّ يدوي في ممرات روحه. لكننا نعرف — نحن الذين مشينا معهما — أن اللقاء لا يكون دائمًا في مكان أو زمان، بل يكفي أن نُسمي الحفل: "بقايا الليل".
