هذا الكتاب هو عبارة عن عرض مفصل لتطبيق العلاج المعرفي السلوكي مع 12 حالة حقيقية في مراكز مختلفة للصحة و الصحة النفسية في المملكة المتحدة (بريطانيا). حيث تكون بدايته بفصل نظري قصير يتناول نقاطا نظرية أساسية في العلاج المعرفي السلوكي، ثم تعقبه 12 فصلا يعرض كل واحد منها بالتفصيل حالة حقيقية خضعت للعلاج المعرفي السلوكي في مؤسسة صحية معينة، بحيث يتكون كل فصل من النقاط التالية: الأهداف التعليمية، المحكات التشخيصية، عوامل الاستعداد القبلي و العوامل المفجرة، الانتشار الديمغرافي، تدرج الشدة، عرض الحالة/ الإطار العام، العميل، جلسات الفحص، صياغة الحالة، الجلسات العلاجية، تقييم العلاج، إجراءات التسريح، نقد الحالة، المشاكل التي ظهرت أو يمكن أن تظهر أثناء العلاج.
هذا الكتاب موجه في الأساس لطلبة علم النفس الإكلينيكي و المختصين النفسانيين الإكلينيكيين، لكن يمكن أيضا أن يكون ذا فائدة للأطباء العقليين و لبعض التخصصات الأخرى ذات العلاقة بالصحة النفسية
