- market:- هو مساحة، كبيرة كانت أم صغيرة، حيث يكون المشترون والبائعون على اتصال وثيق كافٍ، لضمان أن سعر أيّ سلعة، يميل إلى أن يكون هو نفسه في كلّ أرجاء السوق؛ مع الأخذ في الحسبان نفقات النقل والحواجز الجمركية، والعقبات الأخرى. ويتحقق تواصلهم إمّا مباشرة، وإمّا من طريق الوسطاء. والسعر الذي يسود أحد أجزاء السوق، يكون ذا تأثير في أجزائه الأخرى. وقد يكون السوق في حدود قرية أو مدينة، وقد يكون سوقاً دولياً. كما لا يشترط أن يكون السوق في حيز أو مكان معين، إذ يكفي الاتصال الوثيق بين البائعين والمشترين، كما هو الحال في سوق الصرف الأجنبي (سوق العملات الأجنبية)، مثلاً. وكلما كان السوق متسعاً وكاملاً، توحد سعر السلعة في كلّ أرجائه، في وقت واحد.
