يُطلق على بني الأحمر العديد من المسمّيات، وهي على النحو الآتي:
- بنو نصر.
- النصريون.
- بنو الأحمر.
- ملاحظة: ترجع تسمية بني الأحمر بهذا الاسم إلى محمد بن يوسف بن نصر بن الأحمر؛ حيث لُقّب بذلك لأنّه كان يملك شعراً أحمر اللون، وكانت هذه التسمية لقباً له ولأبنائه، واستمرّت حتّى نهاية فترة حكمهم في منطقة غرناطة.
