- وقد دعا (صلى الله عليه وسلم) إلى التواضع، وحَثّ عليه بقوله: "إنّ الله أوحَى إليَّ أنْ تواضعوا حتى لا يَفْخَر أحد على أحد ولا يَبغي أحد على أحد".
- ثبت في الصحيح قول رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم): بينما رجل يمشي في مَن كان قبلكم وعليه بردان يتبختر فيهما، إذ خسف به الأرض فهو يتجلجل فيها إلى يوم القيامة".
