من أهل مصر ، كان زاهدا عالما مجتهدا قوي الحجة . وهو إمام الشافعيين.
من كتبه (الجامع الكبير) و (الجامع الصغير) و (المختصر - خ) و (الترغيب في العلم).
نسبته إلى مزينة (من مضر) ، قال الشافعي: المزني ناصر مذهبي. وقال في قوة حجته: لو ناظر الشيطان لغلبه !
