أخرجت الطبعة الأولى من كتاب "على طريق الهند" في رسالة الأهالي الأولى سنة 1932، وكان عدد نسخها قليلاً فنفذوا في مدة وجيزة، وكان المقرر إجراء بعض التنقيحات اللغوية وغيرها ولذلك جاءت هذه الطبعة الجديدة، محتفظة بمواضيع الكتاب الأولى وأفكاره الأساسية ولكن جرى البحث فيها هذه المرة بإسهاب أكثر جعل حجم الكتاب يقارب ضعف حجمه الأول. وقد أضيف إلى الفصل الثالث منه بحث في أهمية الهند للرأسمالية الإنكليزية وإلى الفصل العاشر بحث في بوادر اليقظة في الهند، وأكملت المواضيع الأخرى بإضافة ما جرى من التبدلات والتطورات في ظروف الثلاث سنوات الأخرى. ويرى القارئ في آخر الكتاب قائمة المصادر.
وقد اعتنى المؤلف عناية خاصة بجعل هذا الكتاب نافعاً للجيل الجديد يعينهم في الوقوف على الوضع الراهن في الشرق الأدنى بصورة عامة وفي العراق بوجه خاص. أما مواضيع الكتاب فجاءت مقسمة على أربعة أبواب حملت العناوين التالية: الباب الأول: طريق الهند، الباب الثاني: سكة حديد بغداد، الباب الثالث: عوامل أخرى تؤيد المصالح السياسية البريطانية في العراق، الباب الرابع: الاستعمار البريطاني في حالة الدفاع.
