تدور أحداث رواية "ولد نعيمة" حول رجل اسمه "مبارك " شخص مجهول النسب عمره أربعون عاما يملك قدما أكبر من قدم و أربع حلمات في صدره. تبدأ الرواية بمحاولة انتحاره من فوق جسر من جسور مدينة عين الدفلى، وهو على وشك رمي نفسه يلمح فتاة صغيرة تراقبه من بعيد فيمتنع عن الانتحار أمامها حتى لا يسبب لها ضررا نفسيا، ويقرر الذهاب إلى المنزل وشنق نفسه بطريقة غريبة _مقلوبا رأسا على عقب_، فيفشل في ذلك، يثور غضبه يفتح النافذة ويرمي نفسه من شرفة الطابق الخامس ولا يموت ثم يدخل المستشفى ويخرج مجددا ليحاول الانتحار مجددا فيخفق ولا يقبله الموت، وكل مرة يحاول الانتحار بطريقة جديدة فيخفق.
ثم بعد خروجه من المستشفى إثر عملية انتحار فاشلة يصعد إلى أعلى العمارة مرة أخرى ويرمي نفسه وأثناء سقوطه باتجاه الأرض هناك أين يسترجع خيط ذكرياته والأحداث التي وقعت له على طول أربعين عاما. ومع سقطته يسترجع جزءً كبيرا من تاريخ الجزائر السياسي والاجتماعي في أسلوب ساخر وكومديا سوداء وإسقاطات سياسة واجتماعية من عمق الوطن المجروح يحكي قصته وقصة وطن كامل .
