يقول المؤلف:فهذا بحث صغير على كتاب " المحلَّى" للإمام الحافظ أبي محمد علي بن أحمد بن سعيد بن حزم القرطبي الظاهري، رحمه الله تعالى، دعاني إلى كتابته حبّي له ولكتابه هذا خاصة، لما حواه من علم جم وتشدد في الاتباع لسنة النبي .
" ولي أنا ميل إلى أبي محمد لمحبته في الحديث الصحيح، ومعرفته به، وإن كنت لا أوافقه في كثير مما يقوله في الرجال والعلماء، والمسائل البشعة في الأصول والفروع، وأقطع بخطئه في غير ما مسألة، ولكن لا أكفره، ولا أضلله، وأرجو له العفو والمسامحة وللمسلمين، وأخضع لفرط ذكائه وسعة علومه>".
هذا، وقد ورثت هذا الحب عن جدّي العلامة الشريف محمد المنتصر الكتاني شفاه الله تعالى، وراثة قناعة وفهم لا تقليد جاهل غر، والله يجازي علماء المسلمين ويتجاوز عن زلاتنا أجمعين.
