إن الاتجاه السائد في الخطاب القرآني وفي الأحاديث النبوية هو المساواة التامة فيما يختص بالعبادات والواجبات الدينية.
وخص الإسلام المرأة بالتكريم بوصفها أمّاً ومنحها مكانة سامية في الجنة كما جاء في الحديث النبوي: الجنة تحت أقدام الأمهات، وقد ذكرت النســــــــاء في القرآن في مواضع عديدة وخص بعضهن بذكر قصّتهن او
اسمائهن .
وإن اللواتي تكلم عنهن القرآن الكريم أكثر من خمسين دون ذكر الاسم الصريح باستثناء مريم. كان السبب في ذلك أن القرآن لم ينزل بلسان العرب فحسب وإنما راعى تقاليدهم وعاداتهم فكان العرب عندما يتحدثون عن المرأة فإنهم لا يذكرون اسمها صراحة وهذا ضرب من الحياء الذي يمتازون به حتى أصبح هذا الأمر طبيعة راسخة لديهم.
وحين نزل القرآن الكريم أبقى كثيراً من الملكات التي ألفوها ولم يكن بمعزل عنها إضافة إلى أسباب أخرى وآداب أصبحت كالقواعد القرآنية التي لا حول عنها.
أما مريم فلا يمكن أن تعرف في القرآن إلا بذكر اسمها لأجل أن يعرف الناس أن عيسى ليس له أب لذلك فقد نسب لها وأصبحت علمية مرافقة لإسمه وهو مرافق لها في أغلب الآيات التي تطرقت إلى أمرهما.
