نذير بطلٌ يائس عقد تسويةً مع الشيطان. فاوض على طمأنينته وبيته، على زوجته وفلذة كبده، وهو يلهث خلف وعدٍ كاذب سرعان ما افترسه. هذه رواية عن نفسٍ بشرية لا عن الأحداث التي تتعرّض لها فحسب. ثمّة جريمة. قتل وسرقة. لكنّ القارئ لن يهتمّ بهما بقدر اهتمامه بالاسترسال في عالَم المؤلّف. عالمٌ منسيّ، في قرية نائية، يسكنها بشر هامشيّون ومهمّشون تفتك بهم أمراض القاع.
