قصة تحاكي واقع حياة الكثير من اللبنانيين في بلاد المهجر لم تعايشها الكاتبة بذاتها وإنما حاولت من خلالها إلقاء الضوء على واقع مرير وقصص حقيقية عاشها أناس آخرون. كشفت الكاتبة في القصة عن مأساة تشتت العائلات بعد هجرتها من الحرب والدمار إلى أرض جديدة طمعاً في الاستقرار وراحة الباب حيث لا قصف ولا تعصب أو تفرقة. كل شيء في حياة العائلة كان يوحي بالسعادة والهناء فلماذا انكشف الحزن؟
الخطر الداهم على وشك أن ينقض على العائلة فالزوج بعيد يبحث عن المال لإتراف العائلة ورفع حالتها الاقتصادية ونسي أنه سياج الأمان للعائلة. أم الأم فتعيش صراع مع الواقع، والحنين إلى الماضي. هذا كله كان سبباً في عصيان الإبنة الكبرى (لارا) على المبادئ والتقاليد التي نشأت عليها والتي تشكل حجر الزاوية في بنيان الأسرة في المجتمعات الشرقية فتيار الحضارة الغربية قد جرف معه الصبية القادمة من بلاد الشرق فراحت تمثل الحياة الكندية في كل شيء لباسها، كلامها ومعتقداتها ولم يبق من البنت الشرقية إلا الهيكل.
فما مصير هذا الدمار النفسي والضياع على الوجه الطفولي الجميل الذي امتزج به السوداء والضياع وما هو مصير العائلة ككل، الموت، الإنكار... الجواب ستجده بين طيات هذه الرواية المعبرة عن واقع حياة المهاجرين.
