Gilles Lipovetsky (born September 24, 1944 in Millau) is a French philosopher, writer and sociologist, professor at the University of Grenoble.
Lipovetsky began his philosophical career as a Marxist, similar to many others in the 1960s. Lipovetsky’s work focuses on the modern world from the latter 20th century to the present. La moda cambia, pero sus explicaciones siguen siendo las mismas. Un problema aparentemente futil, y sin embargo de una infinita complejidad, que se inserta en el centro mismo de la modernidad occidental. El objetivo primero de este libro es el de reinterpretar este problema en su totalidad.
Hoy en día la moda no es sólo un lujo estético y periférico de la vida colectiva, s La moda cambia, pero sus explicaciones siguen siendo las mismas. Un problema aparentemente futil, y sin embargo de una infinita complejidad, que se inserta en el centro mismo de la modernidad occidental. El objetivo primero de este libro es el de reinterpretar este problema en su totalidad.
Hoy en día la moda no es sólo un lujo estético y periférico de la vida colectiva, sino que se ha convertido en un elemento central de un proceso social que gobierna la producción y consumo de objetos,, la publicidad, la cultura, los medios de comunicación, los cambios ideológicos y sociales. Hemos entrado en una segunda fase de la vida secular de las democracias, organizadas cada vez más por la seducción, lo efímero, la diferenciación marginal.
Más alla de las inquietudes que pueda suscitar una sociedad abocada a la obsolescencia de las cosas y del sentido, la moda aparece, paradojicamente, como un instrumento de consolidacion de la democracia, de las sociedades liberales, como un vehículo inédito de la dinamica modernizadora. Tal es la provocativa tesis de este autor.
