كثيرون هم الذين يحملون مكةَ في وجدانهم وتشغلُ اهتماماتهم بل تأخذ حيزاً كبيراً من عقولهم وأفكارهم ؛ إما بحكم النشأة والقرب من ذاك الجناب المحرّم المعظّم ، أو بأمر الحب وهوى الفؤاد المفطور في قلب كل مسلم يتوجّه إلى قبلتها حساً ومعنى ، وليس لأحدٍ المزايدة في هذا الحب والاهتمام على أيّ الاعتبارين الساميين السابقين ؛ فرُبّ بعيدٍ في أقاصي الأرض يحملُ من الشوق والمحبّة ما يغيبُ عن أقرب المقرّبين للبلد الأمين ممّن لا يستشعرُ نعمة وفضل الجوار الكريم ؛ لذلك كان الإحساس بعظمة هذا المكان من الوجدان مهمٌ ؛ فقد روي عن بعض السلف قوله :"لأنْ تكونَ في بلدٍ وقلبُكَ مُشتاقٌ إلى مكةَ متعلّقٌ بهذا البيْت ؛ خيرٌ لكَ مِنْ أنْ تكونَ فيهِ وأنتَ مُتبرّمٌ بالمُقامِ وقلبُكَ في بلدٍ آخر"! وحينما تكونُ مكةُ في الخاطر حاضرةً بالخدمة والمعرفة وتقديم الصورة الأمثل لهذا البلد المعظّم المحرّم بشراً وشجراً وحيواناً وحجراً ؛ يكون التحدّث بنعمة ربك مقاماً مباركاً ومرتبةً راقية تشرئبّ لها أعناق أهل الذوق والكمال . لأجل ذلك كان هذا الجمع من المقالات تحت ذاك العنوان الغالي النفيس "مكة التي في خاطري" معبراً وحاملاً لمعظم ما ارتسم من حروفي واكتنز من كلماتي في جلّ كتاباتي المتنوّعة عن ذلك المقام بين مقالٍ قصيرٍ ، وطويل ، ولقاءٍ ، وتقرير ، تمّ تقسيمها على خمسة فصول هي : ثقافة مكة ، في رحاب الحرم المكي الشريف ، لقاءات مكية ، مكة في ضيافة الكتاب ، أعلام مكية .
