على بتلات الوردات، حيث لم ترسم أو تكتب أو تلفظ بمثلها كلمات، يأتي جديد الكاتب إبراهيم إدريس "مقتطفات من الورد" كزهر الليلك، وكعطر الزنجبيل، قبلة على شفتي الورد يقدمه للقارئ وقد بثَّ فيه أفكاره، كما أودع أسراره، التي لن تبقى مختبئة بين أوراق الورد بعد اليوم.
يقول المؤلف "... صدقاً، كانت الصدمة هي أول شعور انتابني عندما لممت شملهم معاً مشكّلاً بهم باقةً ورديةً أدبيةً كنت أنا فيها المصمم والمنسّق، وستكونون أنتم من يشتمّ شذاها، كتبتها يسراي لتشدوها حناجركم، هذه هي مقتطفاتي الإثنتا عشرة، أستودع القراء إيّاها، (...) وكما للأشهر رباطٌ أسميتموه السنة، لمقتطفاتي رباطٌ أسميته "مقتطفات من الورد"، لعلّي بكل مقتطفة منها أزرع الحب في قلب إنسان آخر، ولعل الآخر بمرور الشهور يقتطفني أنا الإنسان إن أتمها سنةً...".
ويتابع: "إحدى عشرة مقتطفة حمراء، إذ سَطَت دماؤها على دموعها أثناء ترحالها فأكسبتها الحمرة، وأما الثانيةَ عشرةَ منها فاعتلت دموعها دمائها بتفوق فأسقتها لوناً من البياض، قد كانت هذه البيضاءَ المُقتطفة "في لقائه" صلى الله عليه وسلم...".
وفي هذا الكتاب (مقتطفات) تشكل تجربة حياة رجالات أفاضوا علينا في الدين والفلسفة والتاريخ والأدب والفن، تداعت حروفها وكلماتها بين أوراق الكتاب، فجمعها المؤلف كمن يجمع أوراق الورد، بلطف، وبمحبة، وبخوف من تناثرها بين يدي من لا يقدّر ثمنها، فهي كنز الأوائل والأواخر وقد أجاد إبراهيم إدريس تطريزها، وتلوينها، فأضاف إليها من شذا روحه ونفسه وعلمه الكثير... من مقتطفات الكتاب نقرأ:
"ثلاث تثبت لك الود في صدر أخيك: أن تبدأه بالسلام، وتوسّع له في المجلس، وتدعوه بأحب الأسماء إليه" - عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه..
"رضا الناس غاية لا تُدرك، وليس إلى السلامة من ألسنة الخلق سبيل، فعليك بما ينفعك فلزمه" – الشافعي.
"من نقَّب وبحث ثم كتب فهو ربع كاتب، ومن رأى ووصف فهو نصف كاتب، ومن شعر وأبلغ الناس شعوره فهو الكاتب كله" - جبران خليل جبران.
