قررت حنان تغيير الحاضر واستعانت على ذلك بإكمال دراستها المتوسطة والثانوية، ثم حصلت على دورة تدريبية في أعمال السكرتارية، والتحقت بمعهد لتعليم اللغة الإنجليزية وكأنها عملية بناء بعد هدم حياتها الاجتماعية، فتعرفت على العديد من الشخصيات في مجال الدراسة والعمل، ثم كان قربها من إخوتها في محاولة لتعويض النقص عند الطرفين، بتفاؤل وحماس تعوّض الفائت فينقضي اليوم وهي كالجثة الهامدة نائمة لا تشعر بأحد وتصحوا لتبدأ العدو من جديد.
لكن هل ما نحاول أن نخفيه عن أنفسنا وعن الآخرين ننجح في إظهاره لهم؟.
كانت تصرفات حنان تُجيب على هذا التساؤل، فعندما ينشغل عنها إخوتها بما يفعلونه، تركن إلى أي مكان لا يضم أحداً منهم، ثم تبكي دون توقف وتكتم صوتها حتى لا يشعر بها أحد، فلا هي تبحث عن شفقة ولا تجد لديهم حل لمعضلتها.
