الكتاب عبارة عن مجموعة مختارة من تقارير القصص الإنسانية ـ أو ما تسمى تقارير الفيتشر ـ أعدّها المؤلف أثناء تجواله بين عدة بلدان وعواصم أوروبية، فجاءت متنوعة في المحتوى والمضمون، وإن كانت جميعها تشترك في حمل الهم الإنساني، وهو الأمر الذي أضفى بعداً تشويقياً له علاقة بكسر رتابة التقارير المنجزة في حيز جغرافي واحد أو حول قضية واحدة. يستعرض الكتاب تقارير من تركستان الشرقية أو إقليم شينجيانغ كما تطلق عليه الصين، والذي يضم واحدة من قصص الضم القسري التي يتجاهلها العالم، حيث يسلط المؤلف الضوء على بعض زوايا معاناة سكان الإقليم والحياة فيه. ومن القارة الأوروبية يستعرض قصص لاجئين سوريين لم يكن بمقدورهم التحدث إلى وسائل الإعلام إلا بعد خروجهم من سوريا. كما يقدم قصة شاهد على مجزرة حماة التي نفذتها وحدات الجيش السوري بحق هذه المدينة عام 1982، بالإضافة إلى تقارير أخرى عن لاجئين من الأحواز المضطهدين في إيران، وآخرين من أفغانستان وفلسطين. يعتبر المؤلف أن أهم ما يميز هذه التقارير أنها حية، أي يمكن قراءتها في كل زمان ومكان، لأنها لا تنتهي بانتهاء الأحداث التي أوجدتها كما هو الحال في التقارير الإخبارية التقليدية، لذلك يتلقاها الناس اليوم وبعد حين بنفس الشغف، لأنها قصص قريبة منهم، ولدت من رحم الإنسانية.
