هذه هي نقطة انطلاق فرويد الجذرية في التصدي لمشكلة الدين وعلاقته بالحضارة ومستقبله على ضوء المستتبعات الفلسفية لنظرية التحليل النفسي. وليس من قبيل الصدفة أن يكون مستقبل وهم-مثله مثل قلق في الحضارة، وموسى والتوحيد-قد ظلّ حتى اليوم بلا ترجمة. فمهما تكن مؤلفات فرويد الأخرى جريئة وخطرة على الايديولوجيا السائدة، فمن الممكن احتواؤها وامتصاصها بحجة أنها علمية. أمّا مؤلفاته الفلسفية فخطرها غير قابل للاحتواء، ولهذا بقي الوجه الجذري والعلماني-لا العلمي فحسب-لفرويد مجهولاً لدى القراء عندنا، كما في كل مكان آخر من العالم.
