في روايته الجديدة "مزاج" يتابع روبير سواليه مسار سلالته المشرقية عبر "باصيل بطركاني" المشرقي القادم من مصر إلى باريس، حيث ينسج رويداً رويداً في باريس الخمسينات، نظاماً مدهشاً من العلاقات المتشابكة، مقدماً خدمات وعاقداً علاقات ليصبح في مركز من التأثير الذي يمكن أن يصنع منه قوياً بين الأقوياء.
ما هي بالدقة الطريقة التي اتبعها هذا الرجل صاحب الجاذبية والإشعاع الخارجي، والذي ورث عن أجداده المشرقيين الحس التجاري وحس المخاطرة. ألا يخضع هذا الشخص لما يسمى على ضفاف النيل بـ"المزاج" أي قمة السعادة والنشوة الذاتية والمتعة الخالصة بالعطاء. فبالإضافة إلى علاقاته الغريبة مع النساء، فإن رجل الظل هذا يدهش ويربك الذين يحيطون به كلهم، لأنه يطرح بأسلوبه الشخصي الخاص أسئلة حقيقية، هي في جوهرها أسئلة الحياة.
