الإجماع أقوى الأدلة الشرعية في الدلالة على الأحكام، والمسائلُ التي انعقد عليها الإجماع لا تجوز مخالفتها باتفاق أهل الإسلام. لذا كان من أهمّ مسالك التفقه تمييز المسائل المجمَع عليها من تلك المختلف فيه، وهو مما عُني أئمة الدين ببيانه والتصنيف فيه. ومن أهمّ ما أُفرد لبيان المسائل المجمَع عليها: كتاب «مراتب الإجماع» للإمام المجتهد أبي محمد ابن حزم الأندلسيّ (ت456هـ) رحمه الله تعالى، وهو كتابٌ معتبرٌ معتمَدٌ في حكاية الإجماع، حتى اشتهر عند العلماء أنّ «أصحّ الإجماعاتِ إجماعاتُ ابن حزم» كما نصّ عليه الونشريسي في «المعيار» (12: 34).
وليس لهذا الكتاب ـ على الرغم من أهميته ـ طبعةٌ متقَنة، فكل طبعاته فيها أسقاطٌ وتحريفات. وهذه النسخة التي ننشرها اليوم تُحقَّق لأول مرة عن ثلاث نسخ خطية، وأصول أخرى مساندة، وفيها زيادات كثيرة على المطبوع، وبذيلها «نقد مراتب الإجماع» لابن تيميّـة، وفيها ـ لأول مرة ـ استدراكاتُ العلّامة جمال الدين الرَّيميّ اليمني (ت792 هـ).
