المحاولات الفلسفية التى اقدمها اليوم إلى الجمهور الفلسفى فى بلاد الشرق العربى, قد تناولت موضوعات مختلفة, ومثلت اتجاهات متنوعة, وأمتدت إلى فترات متباعدة.
ولكنى أستطيع أن أقول إنها جميعاً, على الرغم مما بينها من تفاوت ظاهر, قد ألف بينها إحساس واحد وإلهام واحد وغرض واحد: الابتهاج بطلب المعرفة, والسعى إلى سبيل الحق, والتجاة إلى قيم الروح.
عصرنا هو عصر العلم, ويحق لنا أن نزهو به على سائر العصور: فقد جدد العلم أحوال فكرنا واحوال وجودنا؛ كشف لنا عن كثير من أسرار الطبيعة, ويسر لنا أن نبسط سلطاننا عليها؛ وبدل النظرة القديمة التى كانت تجعل الإنسان غاية لسائر المخلوقات بنظرة جديدة حددت للإنسان مكانه من هذا الكون العجيب.
على أننا مهما نبلغ من تثقيف الأذهان ومعرفة الأشياء, فيجب علينا فى كل لحظة أن نختار, ولابد من أن نراهن على وجودنا كله.
يلزمنا أن نقرر هل نبتغى أن نكون من أصدقاء الروح أم من أتنصار المادة, وهل نريد أن نكوم من حزب الله أم من حزب الشيطان.
وماذا يعنينا من قوانين النجوم وقوانين الذرات إذا كنا لا نعرف أنفسنا ونجهل سر مصيرنا, وإذا كنا لا نستطيع الإجابة على السؤال الخطير الذى يوجه إلينا على الدوام: أنعمل لدينانا كأننا نعيش أبداً أم نعمل لآخرتنا كأننا نموت غداً؟
ولقد وضع "شكسبير" هذه المشكلة بعينها حين تساءل على لسان "هملت": أيكون أم لا يكون؟ ولكنه فى الحق سؤال لا يجاب عليه بالذهن الإنسانى وحده.
وبعد فالفلاسفة كغيرهم من أفراد الإنسانية مائتون ولكن الفكر الفلسفى خالد لا يموت. وليست "الفلسفة الخالدة" مذاهب "مغلقة" ولا أنحاء نظر ضيقة, ترضى رغية الإنسان المتطلع إلى المعرفة.
بل هى "طريق قويم فى الحياة" كما أردها حكماء الرواقيين, وهى "تأمل الحياة" كما أردها سبينوزا؛ وهى فوق هذا كله نغمة روحية تتردد فى جوانب الحياة الإنسانية كلها فتشيع فيها سلاماً وتضفى عليها انسجاماً إنها سعى موصول يبذله الإنسان الناضج الواعى لمجاوزة نفسه بإطلاقها من أسر الأنانية ورق الشهوات؛ أنها فى جوهرها عمل أخلاقى وفعل من أفعال المحبة الخالصة.
