ترافقه في رحلة التيه أخته الصغيرة "كيمبرلي" (8 سنوات)، التي تمثل خيط الأمل الوحيد المتبقي في عالمٍ استباح العدمُ أجساد قاطنيه. يعيش البطلان حالة من الحصار؛ ليس حصار الأسلاك الشائكة فحسب، بل حصار الروح التي تبحث عن وطنٍ يسع كل هذا الانكسار.
بين حطام البدايات وظلال "عصبة الهالكين"، ينسج كولانيل مأساة "دمار الهلاك"، حيث لا يُقاس الزمن بالساعات، بل بمقدار ما يتبقى من الروح بعد كل خيبة. هي رحلة لا تبحث عن النجاة المادية، بل تبحث عن ذلك "العمق" القابع في أقصى نقطة من الألم، بانتظار اللقاء الذي لن يكون فوق ترابٍ فانٍ، بل في سماءٍ رحبة.. ريثما يجدون السلام.
