مهندس شاب، يعيش حياة سعيدة، لكن امرأته تموت فى أحد حوادث السيارات، وتترك له ابنته الصغيرة، ولأنه مهندس بترول، عليه أن يتغيب عن المنزل، فيأتى بخادمة إلى المنزل، وتنمو مشاعر الحب بين المهندس والخادمة بعد أن دخل عليها الحمام وهى تغسل ملابسها، ويكتشف جمالها، يكتم أحاسيسه فى أعماقه، ويأخذها معه إلى منزله بالسويس حيث يعمل، فى إحدى الليالى التى سكر فيها يقوم المهندس باغتصاب الخادمة، وعندما تحمل الجنين يطلب منها سرعة التلخلص منه، وعندما يعرضها على الطبيب يخبره هذ الأخير أن فى الإجهاض خطورة على حياتها، مما يوقع الرجل فى أزمة، ولا تكف الخادمة عن البكاء، تلاحظ الطفلة الصغيرة أحزان الخادمة وتتعرف على بعض أبعاد المشكلة، وأن الأب هو السبب، فتحاول أن تنتحر، مما يدفع بالأب إلى إصلاح غلطته ويتزوج من الخادمة.
