“ماكس والقطط” التي تقدم لأول مرة بالعربية، حازت الشهرة مرتين؛ الأولى عام 1981 عقب صدورها مباشرة إذ حظيت برضى النقاد، وفي عام 2002 عندما فاز الكاتب الكندي يان مارتل بجائزة Man Booker عن رواية «حياة باي» حيث اتهم بانتحال فكرة رواية سكلير. وأدى اعتراف مارتل بأنه اقترض الفكرة إلى نقاش حاد بين الكتاب والنقاد حول طبيعة الاختراع الأدبي وأطر حقوق الملكية الأدبية.
قال سكلير لصحيفة «نيويورك تايمز»: «بطريقة ما أشعر بالإطراء أن كاتباً زميلاً يعدّ فكرتي جيدة جدا، ولكن من ناحية أخرى، فقد استخدم هذه الفكرة دون استشارتي أو حتى إخطاري». «الفكرة هي ابنة صاحبها!». كما أعلن سكلير أنه لا يفكر بمقاضاة مارتل، الذي أضاف شكراً لسكلير في الطبعات اللاحقة لروايته عقب تردد.
يعدّ مواسير سكلير من أشهر القاصين والرواة البرازيليين. ولد عام 1937 في بورتو آليغري وتوفي عام 2011 . وقد قامت الدار ، بالإضافة إلى هذا العمل، بترجمة رواية «المتطوعون» لذات الكاتب.
