ولريش بك Ulrich Beck (وُلِد 15 مايو 1944) هو عالم اجتماع ألماني.
وقد صاغ مصطلح مجتمع المخاطرة risk society وكان أستاذاً لعلم الاجتماع في جامعة لودڤيگ مكسيمليان بميونخ حتى 2009.
وقد حصل على الأستاذية من جامعة ميونخ ومدرسة لندن للاقتصاد.
حياته : وُلِد بك في بلدة شتولپ الپومرانية، ألمانيا (واسمها الآن سووپسك في پولندا) في 1944.
ومنذ 1966 فصاعداً، درس علم الاجتماع، الفلسفة، علم النفس، والعلوم السياسية في جامعة ميونخ.

هناك الكثير من الناس يعتقدون لأسباب منطقية أن العولمة الاجتماعية، وكذلك الثقافية والسياسية، تسعى في نهاية المطاف إلى تحويل الدولة، غير أنه من المؤكد أنها تسعى أيضاً إلى نزع الملكية منها. وبالتالي فقد تولد نتيجة لذلك شعور بالعجز الذي هو بالحقيقة ناتج عن مؤسساتنا التي يجب إعادة بناؤها، للمحافظة على تماسك المعايشة والعمل السياسي، وذلك من خلال مواجهة تحديات العولمة التي هي ليست ظاهرة خارجة عن ظروفنا الحياتية، بل هي الطريقة التي سنعيش بها من الآن فصاعداً. وقد ناقش أولريش بك في هذا الكتاب ماهية العولمة ليوضح صعوباتها وقيمها ودلالالتها المتعددة وأبعادها ليكشف بالتالي عن فخاخها الفكرية ويجعل تجنبها ممكناً وهو بذلك يسعى إلى فتح الأفق لتقديم إجابات عن العولمة.
