في ليلة ما، في مدينة ما، تحدث أحداث طبيعية، هذه الأحداث تحدث كل يوم، لشخصيات أبطالها هم القارئون. تبدأ أحداث الرواية بطريقة عشوائية كطريقة تعريفية للرواية ثم تترتب الأحداث بشخصيات محددة في مستشفى هذه المدينة، وتنتقل من المستشفى إلى أماكن أخرى، حاول الكاتب أن يفرق بين الشخصيات وأحداثها، تتحدث الرواية عن شخصيات منفصلة عن بعضها البعض ولكن من الممكن أن تكون هذه الشخصيات مترابطة عاليا أو مجتمعيا أو أن هذه الشخصيات تربطهم صلة صداقة، قد يكون الشر زائد في بعض شخصيات هذه الروايا وذلك بسبب أن صفة الشر متأصلة في الإنسان وهذا نظرا لأبحاث نفسية وتجارب بشرية فأول جريمة قتل حدثت بير أخوين وهم (قابيل وهابيل) أبناء النبي آدم عليه السلام، في هذه الرواية لا يذكر بعض من الإنتماءات سواء كانت عرقية دينية أو وطنية ولكن يوجد إنتماءات عائلية و جماعية و نفسية، يوجد بهذه الرواية بعض المجموعات كمجموعة النقاشات البلدية أو مجموعة (النساء والقوة) وغيرها من المحموعات، قد يكون من الفريب وجود الأرقام التي تدل على ع. لشخصية بالرواية ولكن هذه الأرقام تدل على عدم تميز الشخصيات عن بعضهم البعض وتدل أيضا على تميزهم عن بعضهم البعض، وهذه الأرقام هي دليل على أن كل شخصية هي مجرد رقم في هذا العالم ولكن من الممكن أن تأخذ بطريقة أخرى وهي على أن كل رقم مميز عن الآخر ومختلف عنه.
