"كلا، صاحب الجلالة!". "لماذا؟"؟ لأنه تصرف غير عقلاني في هذه الحالة لم يكن المال ليجديني نفعاً، حيثما أكون في أطراف المعمورة كانوا سيقبضون عليّ، صاحب الجلالة!". "فقط حينما نكون نحن القتلى تستطيع ان تسرح وتمرح كبطل في ربوع القارة الأوروبية، مسيو!؟ "من المحتمل، صاحب الجلالة!". "حين نطالب بإعدامك تعمّ المظاهرات كافة أنحاء أوروبا، لتسقط حكم الإعدام عن البطل، أليس كذلك؟". "لم أفكر بهذا الأمر، صاحب الجلالة!" "لم تستطع أن تفكر لأنك ما زلت مجرد هاو، اسمع مسيو: أنت أدركت الآن هذا الوضع، أما أنا ففي مواجهة هذا الوضع منذ ثلاثين سنة، في كل ساعة وكل دقيقة وكل ثانية، أعمل على حماية سفينة نوح من الغرق وسط الأمواج المتلاطمة في خضم البحر الهائج. لكنني أرى أنه حين يشعل الحمار حريقاً في المخزن، فإن الفيل يسعى الى تفتيت أخشاب السفينة كل مستعد لإنقاذ الرعية المظلومة، ما عداي. أما أنا فأعتبر ظالماً بإبقائي السفينة فوق الماء. يقولون لي: إنها سفينة قديمة، دعها تغرق حسناً، لكن ماذا سيحل بركابها عندئذ، مسيو!؟
