لَبْس هي قصة تشوهات وانمساخات، أبقتها بطلة جيزوالدو بوفالينو التي يسرد خيالاته من خلالها، أبقتها لنفسه منذ سنوات طويلة، ولطالما حفظتها في حقيبتها بمثابة ذخيرة، بانتظار اللحظة المناسبة لإبرازها... ذلك أنها تكتب روايات بوليسية على وجه الدقة، ما زالت جميعها غير منشورة وآيلة إلى التلف، باستثناء هذه التي يراها القارئ والتي تمثل فيها بصيغة المتكلم المقرونة بكنية أطلقها عليها زملاءها في قسم التحرير فور تعرفهم بها آغاتا.
بإيقاع متزامن سارت بنا خطانا نحو الشاطئ. بسط ذراعه حول كتفي وراح يحدَّثني عن نفسه فبادلته بالمثل إذ ألمّت به نوبةٌ من المَرَح الأسيان. وأحسستُ فجأة بالحاجة لأن استسلم للكلام، لأن أفضفض، وأروي سيرة حياتي، كلَّ حياتي... كيف طرأت هذه المأساة اللاعقلانية ونَقضتْ عليَّ هُدنةً من صفاءِ السريرة؛ وكم يعتصِرُ قلبي ألماً على صورة ذلك الناشر الممدَّد هناك في صالة الألعاب، صورة ذلك الحضور الساخر والموحش على غطاء الطاولةِ الأخضر، ولا أحد ليسهر عليه وبجواره.
