بر الوالدين فرض واجب على كل إنسان؛ وذلك اعترافًا منه لها بمعروفهما وجميل صنيعهما، وذلك البر يكون بالإحسان إليهما، والتودد لهما، وطاعتهما في جميع الأمور المباحة والتي لا تتعارض مع أحكام الله وطاعة رسوله..
وبر الوالدين ضد عقوقهما، والذي يعني الإساءة إليهما ولو بكلمة أف، وهي أقل كلمة يعبر بها الإنسان عن ضجره وضيقه من شيء ما، قال تعالى (وَقَضَى رَبُّكَ أَلاَّ تَعْبُدُواْ إِلاَّ إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا إِمَّا يَبْلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ الْكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَا أَوْ كِلاهُمَا فَلاَ تَقُل لَّهُمَا أُفٍّ وَلاَ تَنْهَرْهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوْلاً كَرِيمًا ) [سورة الإسراء آية: 23]
وبالطبع ما دون كلمة أف وما فوقها- مما يسيء للأبوين أو لأحدهما من ابنهما أو بنتهما- محرم على الإنسان، ويعد من العقوق الذي يحاسب الله عليه حسابًا شديدًا، ويعجل له عقوبته في الدنيا، ثم يعذبه بسببه في الآخرة.
وفي هذا الكتاب يتحدث المؤلف عن فضل الوالدين، وكيفية برهما في حياتهما وبعد موتهما، وسبل البعد عن عقوقهما، حتى ينال الإنسان بذلك رضاهما عليه، ورحمة الله ﻷ له في الدنيا والآخرة.
