البراسم جامع للخير كله، والبرّ: الصلة، منه بررت والدي. ويقال بر أباه فهو بار. وبر الوالدين صلتهما، والإحسان إليهما، ورفع قدرهما، وملاحظة حقوقهما بخلاف عقوقهما المستلزم للإساءة إليها، وعن دعاء الخير بعد وفاتهما كما ورد في الأخبار. وبر الوالدين فضائل لا تحصى كثر حتى ورد " إن الجنة تحت أقدام الأمهات " وأن عقوق الوالدين مستلزم لعقوق الله، ومن بر والديه وقاه الله من سخطه في الدنيا والآخرة. هذا وأن الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية دعت إلى البر والصلة للوالدين. كما الروايات التي هي كثيرة في شأنهما تعظيماً وإكراماً،وهو أمر معتبر في جميع الشرائع. هذا وإن لو أحداً راجع قلبه وعقله وهو في سلامة منهما لم يرَ إلا الفضل الكبير وعين الجود المتدفقة له من وجودهما، سواء وهو في حالة الفقر والضعف والحاجة إليهما، أو كبيراً مستقلاً عنهما. إنهما القلبان الكبيران المتمثلان في الوالدين، فكم في حفائهما أو التكبر عليهما من جهل وغرور وإنسلاخ عن الإنسانية، فلا الأديان تقبل التهاون في حث الوالدين ولا الإنسانية. ومع شهود أشكال من التمرد والعصيان وأصناف من العقوق والتدني الأخلاقي تجاهها، رأى المؤلف الإنصراف إلى إعداد هذا البحث ليتمهد من خلاله في وضع طائفة من الآيات والأحاديث والأذكار التي تحث على بر الوالدين مبيناً وجوه ونواحي برهما ووجوه الإعانة على ذلك البر ومنبهاً إلى الآثار التي تنعكس على العاق. ومن ثم مقدماً قصصاً وعبراً في البر والعقوق.
