ومن هنا، جاء إختيار اسم الجزيرة لتكون عنواناً للرواية، حيث يلعب المكان دوراً مهماً في توازي أحداث الماضي مع حاضر الرواية، حيث كان اللؤلؤ الذي جلب المحتلين في القرن السادس عشر يكافئ النفط الذي جلب الشركات الأجنبية في بداية القرن العشرين.
