كان صباحاً دافئاً أشرقت فيه الشمس على سماء صافية ولم تلبس ضاحية المرج التي تبعد عشرين كيلومتراً عن القاهرة حلة الضباب التي كثيراً ما تحجب الرؤيا فيها خلال أيام الشتاء...
وتوجهت إلى الحديقة أتلمس الدفء... وكانت الأشجار قد نفضت اوراقها وجفت الزهور.... وتأملت في لحظة، حياتي في هذا المكان الذي حددت فيه إقامتي منذ 14 نوفمبر 1954، وتبينت أن العمر كاد أن يذوى وقد تجاوزت السبعين.
ووجدت أن في صدري كلمات لا يصح أن تمضي معي دون أن أقولها لأبناء مصر جيلاً بعد جيل.
وكان أن فكرت ثم قررت أن أقول (كلمتي.. للتاريخ) لا شيئ فيها غير الصدق؛ لأني لا اطلب اليوم من الحياة شيئاً.
وإني لأذكر بالشكر كل من ساهم في معاونتي ومساعدتي في إخراج هذه الكلمة إلى عالم النور.
وأرجو ان تكون (كلمتي.. للتاريخ) سراجاً يبدد الظلام، لتظهر الحقيقة لأبناء مصر.
