كانت قضايا الشباب والتعليم من أهم الموضوعات التي اعتنى بها المعلم والفيلسوف اللبناني "كمال جنبلاط" في سبعينيات القرن العشرين، وإذ كان يشدد على ناحية المعرفة وضرورة العناية بها في لبنان، فلأنه يعتبرها "وفق المفهوم الحديث للدولة، الأساس والمرتكز لكل نهضة تقنية وعلمية".
انطلاقاً من هذه الرؤية يوضح هذا الكتاب البرنامج العملي الذي وضعه كمال جنبلاط وأهم ما جاء فيه نشر التعليم الإبتدائي المجاني وتوسيع التعليم الثانوي والمهني في كافة المناطق وعلى أسس تأخذ بعين الإعتبار حاجات الأقاليم المتخلفة إجتماعياً وإقتصادياً، قصد إحلال المساواة فيما بينها، وتقوية المؤسسات التربوية في إطار تصميم يوفر لها تباعاً عناصر الكفاءة التعليمية ... أيضاً من ضمن برنامج المعلم في حقل التربية والتعليم الإهتمام بالتعليم العالي وتعزيز الجامعة اللبنانية، ورفع المستوى المسلكي لأفراد الهيئة التعليمية ... وإصدار المنشورات التربوية بهدف التثقيف ورفع مستوى وتنظيم شؤون المعاهد، وتوحيد المناهج في مختلف المؤسسات التربوية وغيرها من خطوات وإن دلت على شيء فإنما تدل على نظرة تربوية تنموية متقدمة على عصرها كانت العامل الأساس في تطوير ثقافة وطنية متفاعلة معه الداخل اللبناني رأى فيها المعلم: (الحل الأكمل لمشكلة التشتت الوطني والدواء الأنجع للقضاء على بذور سياسة الطائفية والتوجيه الإستعماري لبعض المؤسسات الأجنبية التي تشكل أكبر عقبة في طريق تقدم لبنان وتطويره".
هذا، وقد انتظمت موضوعات الكتاب تحت العناوين الآتية: المعرفة وضرورة العناية بها، المعنى الحقيقي لحرية التعليم، سياسة الحكومة التربوية، مؤسسة التعاون الفكري الدولي في الشرق، مشكلة التعليم وقضاياه في لبنان ... وقضايا التربية والشباب ... وموضوعات ذات صلة.
